Glacier Berthillon, Paris!

Today at the cake shop I made more carrot cake, a HUGE amount of Swiss buttercream, pecan pies, and a few different fruit purees. Easy work and it's nice that I can apply what I learned from culinary school to what I'm doing here. Nothing crazy or different, which is good. After getting done with work a little early today (this is their slow season, weirdly enough), I decided to tour around a bit. Since I am not far from the Seine and Notre Dame, I decided to walk down to the river and visit my grandmother, Omi's favorite ice cream place, Glacier Berthillon, located on l'ile Saint-Louis. It is the smaller island just behind the Notre Dame. Technically a lot of the little cafes have ice cream from this place, which is where I went with my Omi originally. But this time I decided to actually go to the original one, which is a few blocks into the center of the island.
I caught a glimpse of the backside of Notre Dame on the way. I have been there before and have no doubt that I will go again, but not today. It was a cloudy day today with the threat of a storm but so far no rain has fallen. I think that it will come later. I chose cassis and apricot, my Omi's two favorite flavors. The summer we visited Paris was the hottest it had been in years, every day over 40C. So we got ice cream often or stopped at the cafes for jus d'abricot (apricot juice). It sounds odd but it's delicious. So I got a scoop of each and they were delightful. After that I had lunch (backwards I know) it a little cafe at the edge of the island, overlooking the Seine with a view of the back of Notre Dame. Just got back home now. My cousins are away so I can relax for a bit, maybe take a nap. Between the jet lag and slightly more normal work schedule my body is pretty confused. I'm not sure if I'm tired because I only slept 6 hours, or because my body wants to catch up on the last 7 months of sleep or from regular jet lag. But I have the option for naps so I may as well take advantage when it's quiet here. Goodbye for now.
