Two in One: Eiffel Tower yesterday & Jardin des Plantes today

Yesterday after work I met up with my mom and a friend of hers for a delicious crepe lunch in view of the Pantheon. Afterwards we went back to the hotel for a nap and then decided we should probably check out the Eiffel Tower while my mom is here. We took the metro as close as we could (without doing any transfers) and then walked about 20min until we were in view of the tower. Of course we had to do the required selfies. The line for the elevators was ridiculous, but the line for the stairs was non-existent. So we decided to go for it. You can only get two levels up, and then you have to pay to take an elevator to the very top. But it was still cloudy and the top was shrouded in clouds for most of the time we were there. Even the second level had some mist droplets from the clouds while we were up there. So we decided not to go any further. After we got back down we headed back to the hotel, but decided to walk instead. It was around an hour and a half through the twisting Parisian streets and when we turned around, we saw that they had lit up the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately it rained on us for most of the walk back, but it was a light rain. Today after work, we headed southwards along Rue Mouffetard which is scattered with little cafés, shops, boulangeries and fromageries. Our destination was the Manufacture des Gobelins. This is a tapestry factory that supplied the court of French monarchs with their woven tapestries since Louis XIV. There was nothing in English so my mom and I took a tour of the exhibition, French artist Jean Lurçat. Most of the works were tapestries but there were a few paintings and ceramic pieces. The tapestries were stunning, and huge! After this we walked over to the Jardin des Plantes and stopped for a little Moroccan mint tea and pastries before entering the gardens. (Suggested by my Uncle Kim). The garden boasts a zoo as well as botanical museum and natural history museum. We decided to tour the zoo. Of course, it started raining again but it was still fairly pleasant, if a bit chilly. We saw Hedwig! (snowy owl) who even hooted at us a few times. The rain picked up toward the end of our zoo tour so we stopped at a little cafe for lunch and to get out of the rain. I had a delicious meat and cheese platter with my favorite drink here in Paris: the kir. I've had it before but it is very popular here and is listed on all their menus so its an easy go-to for something that I know I like. Fortunately the rain had stopped by the time we were done so we had a much nicer walk back to the hotel.
