Random Pics of the Week

So in the time since my mom left, I've mostly been catching up on sleep, no actual trips happening. But I did have some fun exploring around the main center of Paris. And a fun bit of baking. Our decorator, Sarah, had her last day at work on Thursday. So to celebrate I made pizza dough and we made our own pizzas. Afterwards we went out for some delicious, and beautiful, ice cream. I had a cherry center with speculoos and salted caramel "petals". The other girls stuck to sorbets. I also got to decide the flavors for the next batch of scones. They usually stick to pretty normal/boring flavors and fold the dough in half over the flavor, so I decided to change it up a bit, since I was given the freedom. I made cherry/almond and blueberry/mint with the flavor fully mixed in (because that's how I like my scones). Hopefully people like them. On Friday I had a nice walk along from work and then along the Seine to the Tuileries, where I sat by the fountain and enjoyed a baguette panini (ham, cheese, tomato and basil). I also saw an awesome old-school game shop that carried even the oldest systems you could think of. I was drawn in by the Sega GameGear in the window (yup, I had one of those). I resisted the urge to buy anything because I wasn't sure if they are adaptable to the voltage in the States. Once I got back to Chatou I went for a run along a little canal and there were flowering blooming everywhere, including water lilies. It was supposed to be the last day of sun so I wanted to take full advantage of being outside. On Saturday, along with the few things that I had to make at work, I also decided to make pita bread. It has the same ingredients as their pizza dough recipe and is so easy to make since you don't have to proof it. We don't have a pizza stone so I improvised and just used an upside-down sheet tray. Not the best for heat transfer but it works. And they turned out really good. We ate some at work and then I brought the rest for a little pique-nique at Sarah's apartment to celebrate her leaving work. The rest of the day was pretty relaxing, mostly planning my trip in Barcelona and the south of France with my dad, which will happen after I'm done with my 8 weeks of work. Today (Sunday) I spent time with the family. Unfortunately it was raining, and of course we had planned to go to Parc Asterix (like a local 6 flags/Disneyland/amusement park) which would not have been very fun in the rain. So we went to Thoiry which was a zoo/safari about 40m drive away. The rain had picked up so we just stuck to the safari part of it, where you drive in and follow a trail to see all the animals, while staying in the car. You can also go to the other side where they have a normal walking zoo, but the rain was coming down pretty hard at that point. And with 3 adults, and 2 kids (one in a stroller) it would have been a pain. So we just did the safari and left, having a delicious Moroccan lunch. And rocking out to some Eye of the Tiger in the car. The most English he knows are the words to songs, which is pretty funny. (Sorry for the blurry antelope, but it had turned just right as we were moving so that it almost looked like a unicorn!!!) That's all for now. Hoping for a fun day trip tomorrow, but I'll wait and see because there are still major train cancellations happening for all the SNCF trains out of Paris. So my plans might have to be changed last minute.
