Mom's Last Day in Paris

So for my mom's last day in Paris it started out a bit chilly and overcast, but there was no rain so we walked over the the Musée de l'Orangerie. Ridiculous lines over an hour long so we decided it just wasn't in the cards and we would continue up the metro lines to Montmartre and the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. It is at the top of the hill overlooking the city to the south but it was still a little misty/foggy so it wasn't a great view. On a good day you can see the Eiffel Tower. Not so much today. But the little artists square nearby is super cool with cute old men painting on small canvases and the shops surrounding are mostly tourist-y with cafés scattered throughout. ******(NOTE: ENTERING THE RED-LIGHT DISTRICT...SOME PHOTOS ARE NOT G-RATED...NO ACTUAL NUDITY)****** After this we walked downhill to the Rue de Clichy which is considered the "red-light district" where the Moulin Rouge and other cabaret shows and sex shops line the street. There are some hilarious looking novelty shops with the kind of things you'd find at racy bachelor/bachelorette parties. We passed Le Chat Noir, thought to be the first modern cabaret, built in 1881, set up similarly to how the movie Moulin Rouge portrayed cabarets: where patrons sat drinking while being entertained by shows on the stage and a master of ceremonies interacted with them. We also passed The Paris Museum of Erotic Art, which is actually a museum, not just a tourist trap. It was started in 1997, but the two owners had been collecting for 30 years prior to that, collecting things from around the world and studying the different items from different cultures. We didn't stop in, but maybe I will if I'm back in that area. We finally got the the Moulin Rouge and made sure to get the required selfie. Then we took the metro back to the Seine and walked along the river and to the île-Saint-Louis to get my mom some Berthillon ice cream before her departure. She got salted caramel and I got peach and apricot. There's also a great little wine shop next door with fun sounding wine-tasting that I might need to try. After a bit of a rest we headed back to our favorite crêperie just a few blocks away where my mom had a Speculoos Tiramisu as her dinner and I had a crêpe with Emmental, potatoes, bacon, hamburger, and bleu cheese sauce. Delicious! It was so great having her out here. She made her flight safely this morning and is on her way back to the States right now. Now I have 2.5 weeks till my solo trip to London and 3.5 weeks till my dad gets out here. I know its 10 weeks total and I can't believe its been just over 3 weeks already, but it also seems like it's flying by when I look at the time I have left. I am already planning my next trip back to France (no work and full vacation) with a little less rain, preferably. And I'm definitely bringing Jacob along with me. Goodbye for now.
